This lack of positive change is particularly evident for those with disabilities. Despite the market wide drive towards corporate diversity, statistics show that people with disabilities still face obstacles with recruitment and employment. In the U.K. people with disabilities are twice as likely as able-bodied individuals to be unemployed, 48.3% of people with disabilities are in work, compared to 80.5% of non-disabled people. Statistics are similar for U.S. workforce. In 2015, 34.9% of people with disabilities in the U.S. aged 18-64 were employed compared to 76.0% for people without disabilities a gap of 41.1 percentage points*. We wanted to test the hypothesis that the voyage experience would significantly change their attitudes towards those with disabilities for the better. This hypothesis was based on research into interpersonal contact, which shows that when people from different social groups come together to work towards a common goal, they are likely to form more positive relationships and hold more favorable attitudes towards each other. Able-bodied people view people with disabilities as fundamentally different. To see whether the voyage had a similar positive effect we measured the exec’s self-reported attitudes towards disability before and after the voyage. We also recognized that most able-bodied people are unlikely to admit to holding negative attitudes towards people with disabilities. In fact, it is likely the case that they have very positive intentions, without recognizing that they still view people with disabilities as fundamentally different from those who are non-disabled a situation which can still lead to differential or exclusive treatment. To overcome this we used an implicit association test (IAT) which is reported to overcome social disability bias and captured those more subtle aversions we feel about those who belong to different social groups to us. This was also run with the exec’s pre and post. So, did attitudes change? Participants self-reported attitudes towards disability were more positive after the voyage, and their feelings, behaviors, and thoughts about disability were all significantly more favorable post-intervention. However, despite this very positive finding, it could still be the case that people were actively choosing their responses to reflect more positive attitudes than were genuinely felt. The real test was in the IAT analysis: Importantly, these results showed that participants’ underlying associations with disability had also significantly improved. Qualitative investigation found that this attitude change was facilitated by certain conditions on board the ship, namely the lack of environmental barriers, the out of- comfort-zone elements of the experience and the requirement of teamwork. Answer: Introduction In the case of Kamay v The Queen[2015] VSCA 296 (13 November 2015), the Supreme Court held the defendant Lukas Kamay guilty of money laundering, identity theft, and insider trading (Australasian Legal Information Institute, 2015). The defendant pleaded guilty to all these charges. The Supreme Court Justice, Elizabeth Hollingworth, regarded this case as the worst instance of insider trading which has come forward before any of the courts in Australia. Facts of Kamay v The Queen Lukas Kamay was the associate director at the foreign exchange sales desk, of the National Australian Bank, in Melbourne, and Mr. Hill was the time series analyst, at the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Kamay and Hill had a mutual arrangement, according to which, Hill would provide the information pertaining to the MEIs (Main Economic Indicators), which are regarded as significant, as well as, supremely confidential statistics, related to the state of the market of the Australia, as well as, the economy of the country, to Kamay. Kamay would then use this MEI information, to sell/buy the margin FX contracts (Australasian Legal Information Institute, 2015). She acknowledged that Kamay had conducted 45 transaction, spread over a period of 8 months, in a carefully planner, premeditated manner. Further, Kamay took deliberate steps to conceal this by incurring some losses. So, Kamay was motivated purely and simply by personal greed, and there was no financial pressure, or any addiction problems. The judge held that even though the defendant was legitimately regretful, but the general deterrence had a key role in this whole sche me. So, she awarded Kamay imprisonment for 7 years, 3 months, for insider trading, along with a non-parole period of 4 and half years (Vines Carlyon, 2015). Judicial Interpretations Supreme Court Justice, Elizabeth Hollingworth considered that Kamay was trying to cover the proceeds of the crime committed by him, by attempting to wear a cloak of respectability. Kamay was clearly aware about the confidentiality of the MEIs, and even though it is not a serious crime, but there was a harm caused to the general public (Narushima, Rooy, Randall, 2015). The judge also considered the sole motivation of Kamay, was to gain profits.
